Woodrow for President

Woodrow for President is a book geared to teach children about the Presidential election process.  It follows the steps of Woodrow G. Washingtail as he works through public service in his community, state, and nation, finally running for president.  It is written in cute rhyming verse that carries the story along, but I did find it a little long for my kids (who read all the time, story books and chapter books).  The illustrations are fun and the story is educating.

I am not sure what age to recommend the book because the illustration and rhyme suggest younger children, while the content is a little dry and drawn out suggesting maybe a little older audience.   I read it to my two older kids (5 & 7 years old), both sort of drifted off to other activities toward the end.  I do think they learned a little bit.  Maybe as we read it again they will get more; however, neither has pulled it out to read again and we do read everyday.

Overall, I think it would be a good book for the classroom, especially this year during the elections.  I can think up some fun learning activities to go along with the book!!  I would probably recommend it for mid to upper elementary students.  I'm not sure a class of kindergarten students would follow.  I just got Woodrow: The White House Mouse, so I'll let you know what we think of that one soon!

I did receive a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I can see kids in class enjoying this one for sure.

Thanks for being on the tour!
