My Thoughts:
While this is technically book 2 of the Dearly Beloved series, it can definitely be read alone. Brenda is entering the "empty nest" phase of life and trying to find new purpose. Without her kids at home to serve, who is she. When her mom becomes sick and she has to give up serving at the church, she loses a little bit more of herself. Can any good come from these losses and trials?
I know that the Lord uses different stages of our lives for different lessons and different purposes. Sometimes change occurs to lead us to a deeper truth about Him or about ourselves. That is the takeaway that I got from this story. Truthfully, I had a little trouble engaging with Brenda. She seemed very self-absorbed-especially for the first portion of the book. But, I guess most of us go through similar phases too. I pray that God would open my eyes, when I get like that and draw my focus back to Him.
I appreciate the focus on older women, on marraige renewal and not new romance, and on transitioning from being a full time mom to parenting from afar, and caregiving our caregivers. It is a nice change to read a book focusing on people living in the same phase of life that I am in.
